‘Touched By An Angel’ Actor John Dye Dies At The Age of 47

Actor John Dye died of a heart attack in San Francisco Monday at the age of 47; the news was broken by his brother Jerre when he spoke to The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal.

He is best known for his role of Andrew, the compassionate Angel of Death on Touched by an Angel, which aired on CBS from 1994 to 2003. He joined the cast during the show’s second season on a recurring basis, and became a series regular the next year. He also played the character on the spin-off Promised Land (1996-99), which can now be seen on the cable network GMC five days a week at 2p and twice on Thursdays from 9-11p.

Besides Touched by an Angel, Dye was also a regular on the acclaimed Vietnam drama Tour of Duty (1987-90), and co-starred with Kathy Ireland in the holiday films Once Upon a Christmas (2000) and Twice Upon a Christmas (2001).

Along with Jerre, Dye is survived by his other brother Jamey; his father James, and his grandmother, Irene Duvall.
