Nominations gone ‘Mad’ for 2008 Emmys

Cable becomes in charge of the nominations for the 60th Annual Emmy Awards.

AMC’s Mad Men, which returns for its second season next Sunday at 10pm, receives 16 nominations — including Outstanding Drama and Lead Actor for Jon Hamm. Like Mad Men, FX’s Damages is also nominated Outstanding Drama and Glenn Close is nominated for Lead Actress. Both Close’s co-stars, Ted Danson and Zeljko Ivanek are nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor. HBO’s Entourage has earn nods for Outstanding Comedy and Supporting Actor for both co-stars Kevin Dillon and Jeremy Piven.

HBO’s limited series, John Adams has the most with 23 nominations such as Outstanding Miniseries and Lead Actor for Paul Giamatti. With Mad Men in third, NBC’s 30 Rock lands in the middle with 17 — including Outstanding Comedy, Lead Actor (Alec Baldwin), and Lead Actress (Tina Fey).

Though Katherine Heigi has taken her name off the Emmy list, her Grey’s Anatomy co-stars Sandra Wilson and Sandra Oh are up for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama.

There are some surprise nominations, like Pushing Daisies‘ Lee Pace, as he is up against Baldwin, Tony Shalhoub (Monk), Steve Carell (The Office), and Charlie Sheen (Two and a Half Men), for Lead Actor in a Comedy. Both Christina Applegate and Jean Smart receive Lead Actress and Supporting Actress nods for ABC’ Samantha Who?
