Horror Star Peter Cushing Reanimated Himself in New Film ‘Rogue’

Peter Cushing starred in several films as a monster that could not die. Now, Cushing himself will be reanimated in a new film.

The film, Rogue One, which is currently filming at Pinewood Studios, is a spin-off of Star Wars. Cushing will reprise his role from the original Star Wars film in 1977 through the use of Computer Generated Imagery technology.

In 1977, Peter Cushing took on the role of Grand Moff Tarkin, the character who was the leader of the Death Star. . Grand Moff Tarkin was also Darth Vader’s manager, so-to speak.

This role came long after Cushing had established himself as a horror mainstay, with many questioning, are vampires real? In the spin-off, the CGI version of Cushing will lead the investigation into the back story surrounding the creation of Darth Vader.

However, scientists and producers have run into a small issue when they were creating Cushing’s image for the film.

When he starred in the original film in the 1970s, Cushing refused to wear the leather boots provided for him by George Lucas and the costume department. He complained so much that Lucas gave up fighting and allowed him to wear his slippers throughout the film.

As a result, the film only contains images of the actor from the knees up.

In order to avoid placing the CGI representation of Cushing forever behind a conference table, the designers have spent hours taking images from his other films in order to be able to successfully reproduce his legs for the big screen.

Film makers are going to all of this trouble because the role of the character of Grand Moff Tarkin is essential for Rogue One. The film’s plot is centered around the mission to steal the plans for the first Death Star.

It seems that the film’s line up is not yet full. Cushing, who died in 1994 of cancer, will join the cast from beyond the grave though technology. The studio has also not confirmed an actor to play Darth Vader.

Futuristic technology continues to be at the heart of the Star Wars films. It seems that reanimating a long-deceased film star is just another trick up the sleeves of Walt Disney Studios.
