Gisele Bundchen – Hottest Model of Our Time

Gisele Caroline Bundchen was born on July 20, 1980, in Horizontina, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. With soft blue eyes, light brown hair, and beauty unlike any other, Gisele rose across continents to take the fashion and entertainment world by storm, becoming the most successful, highest paid model in the world, of all time. The story of Gisele gives a glimpse as to who the world’s greatest supermodel of all time really is.

Gisele speaks her native Portuguese, as well as Spanish and English. She comes from a large family. As a child, Gisele wanted to be a professional volleyball player, or a veterinarian, because of her love of the game of volleyball, and her great love of animals. The world has her mother to thank however, for giving us Gisele, for it was her mother, who unlike most moms, insisted she pursue modeling. At 14, Bundchen went to Sao Paulo on a school field trip, where she was discovered by IMG agency in a shopping mall. Her life would never be the same. While her classmates made fun of her for being tall and skinny, the modeling world of course, felt differently. She was adored.

Gisele was soon selected for a national contest, Elite Look of the Year, in which she won second place. She won fourth in the world contest, held in Ibiza, Spain. In 1996, she moved to New York City to begin her modeling career in the States, debuting at Fashion Week, and landing repeated covers of the biggest fashion magazines in the world. She won the VH1 Vogue Model of the Year for 1999, and she had the rare honor of being the only model to land three Vogue covers in a row. In 2000, she became the fourth model to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone, when she was named ‘The most beautiful girl in the world.’ Wisely, few disagreed.

Gisele then went on to appear on more than 500 magazine covers throughout the world, and working with the brightest and biggest photographers of all time. Many of the biggest fashion and product campaigns soon followed, often worth millions of dollars each. In 2000, she was the star and face of Victoria’s Secret, leading their legendary fashion show for seven years straight. Legend after legend in the world of fashion named Gisele as their favorite model and muse. Gisele is also the only woman in the world for whom a stock index was created. It was proven that while the Dow may fall, any company associated with Gisele increases in value.

Never one to follow or conform to stereotypes, Gisele proves that she is not a model with little intelligence. She expanded in to commercial real estate as the owner of a hotel in the south of Brazil, the Palladium Executive. Expanding in to motion picture, she has starred in television in the U.S. and around the world over 100 times, including the Oprah Winfrey Show, Conan O’Brien 8 times, Entertainment Tonight 24 times, and Extra 16 times, as well as a special documentary on her for Victoria’s Secret. In 2004, Gisele appeared in the comedy Taxi, and In 2006, The Devil Wears Prada. Gisele tells us, ‘To be a model is to be half an actress (…)’ Though she does not consider herself an actress, and does not want to fall in to the cliche of models who turn to acting, the beauty of her screen presence is more than enough.

Gisele has a big heart for all life and the planet. Still loving animals, she owns many dogs and horses, which she loves to ride. Gisele does not wear fur, understanding their plight. She has saved many animals as a child, and continues to do so to this day. Gisele lends her support and image to a number of charities and humanitarian causes, such as the ‘I am African campaign,’ and ‘Red.’ She promotes protection of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest and Amazon Rainforest water sources, donating to this cause a percentage of profits from her line of sandals that she created named Ipanema Gisele Bundchen. Her shoe line is the best selling sandals in the entire country of Brazil. A forest in Brazil is even named after her.
