KEMET Electronics Corporation, the global electronic components supplier is partnering with Modelithics, Inc., the RF, microwave and millimeter-wave measurement company.
Modelithics announced the availability of high frequency simulation models for KEMET’s CBR RF Series of broadband capacitors, that come in five different case sizes. The company says these models are compatible with five major EDA software tools.
The Modelithics Vendor Partner program is the vehicle for KEMET to provide access to free 30-day trials of the models.
KEMET and Modelithics recently collaborated to develop highly accurate measurement based equivalent circuit models for
The five EIA case sizes measured in the KEMET CBR RF capacitor series are 0201, 0402, 0603, 0805 and 0505.
The companies announced the models are available in industry leading simulation tools including Keysight ADS, Keysight Genesys, NI AWR Design Environment, ANSYS HFSS and Sonnet Suites.
Engineers will use scalable Microwave Global Models created by Modelithics in RF circuit design. Before Modelithics created these models, the standard capacitors models were unable to simulate the effects of pad geometry, substrate conditions, or high frequency parasitic effects. Now they can can specify pad and substrate parameters in their simulations, using KEMET CBR RF capacitors. This allows them to test measurements as though they were measuring directly in a real circuit.
Modelithics made their advanced models scalable by capacitance value, within each capacitor family. Engineers can now use this powerful optimization and tuning in their designs. A tolerance parameter in the system provides for statistical analysis capability.
Larry Dunleavy, President and CEO of Modelithics, says this development will hellp KEMET customers to achieve greatly improved levels of design accuracy and analysis, thanks to their flexible models.
KEMET sponsored the models, as part of the Modelithics Vendor Partner (MVP) Program. Mr. Dunleavy said, “this shows KEMET’s commitment to supporting high frequency engineers with the best possible design information.”
The KEMET product information notes that “The CBR Series surface mount multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) in C0G dielectric feature a robust and exceptionally stable copper electrode dielectric system that offers excellent low loss performance (high Q). These devices offer extremely low ESR and high self-resonance characteristics, and are well-suited for resonant circuit applications or those where Q and stability of capacitance are required.”
