Holman Ranch and Winery- A Romantic Getaway
One of the most beautiful sites in Carmel Valley is the Holman Ranch and Winery, located 12 miles inland from Carmel. The 400 acre ranch has previously played host to Marlon Brando, Doris Day and a host of dignitaries.
Today the ranch hosts corporate events, weddings, retreats and various other functions. In addition to their beautiful 10-room suites, they offer their wine club members special packages, which include dinner at their historic restaurant Will’s Fargo Steakhouse.
Nick Elliott, the general manager and his wife Hunter hosted a group of press and wedding planners on a tour of the ranch in June.
“The views are breathtaking and the smell of spring with wildflowers blooming, brought tranquil thoughts to everyone,” another member of the press told me.
Holman Ranch was established in 1928 with a modest Spanish style hacienda, constructed with Carmel stone walls and handmade Mexican terracotta roofing. There are also hand-carved oak beamed ceilings. Back then, it was a cattle ranch, and later they added suites for selected guests. Their motto, “A Place Where anything Is Possible,” can handle themes that other facilities in the United States may not offer.
Holman Ranch Wines are included on the 2012 list of “World’s 10 Beat Wines” in the book National Geographic: The 10 Best of Everything. Situated at the northern end of Carmel Valley Appellation, just 12 miles inland from the Pacific Coast, it is Monterey Peninsula’s best kept secret.
Today the Holman ranch has rekindled the historic site of the hacienda to it’s original state. They have paid attention to every detail, which includes a game room and a beautiful courtyard and living room, an exercise facility, and a pool. In the great outdoors, there are various locations for hiking.
Adding to the breathtaking views of Carmel Valley, we would be remiss if information on the winery wasn’t included. Holman Ranch has a small estate vineyard in production on about 20 acres of hillside terrain. Their wine varietals include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Rose of Pinot Noir.
